We’re closing in on week six of distant learning though it feels like week 6,000…
This week is teacher appreciate week. Usually I go overboard with trying to make the teachers feel special and appreciated. Sometimes a parent will take the reins and we’ll all chip in to get something nice for the teacher. This year, I haven’t done anything.
It’s not that I don’t appreciate the teachers and what they have done, it’s because I feel like the parents forced to do this distant learning should be appreciated MORE this year.
There I said it…
Because my men are in two different grades they have different times to be in “class”, assignments, apps and programs to use. If you thought that Elena’s calendar looked crazy on Little Fires Everywhere, please don’t ask to look at mine.
Seriously, this distant learning has become two full time jobs and because my husband is deemed essential it falls all on me.
I know I’m not alone. Many of my mom friends are feeling the burden on not only Teacher Appreciation Week but Mother’s Day weekend week as well.
In case you’re planning something special for the teachers in your life I would urge you first, to think about the mothers who have become the teachers in this weird time. I would suggest instead of a cute gift and coffee card or whatever you’re planning for the teachers to be put back on the shelf and instead go to the liquor store, grab a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer and drop it off for a distant learning Mother.
You know damn well she deserves it.
Happy Mother’s Day, Namaste,
Jes xoxo
