During my last Reiki session we talked about energy portals. Portals that renew or reset your energy, leaving you refreshed and energized.
Do you have one?
Is there a place you go where you feel balanced and whole?
When I worked at Brookside, in Marine on the St. Croix, MANY people would come in and marvel at the river valley. They would share how it feels like an escape or a reset. As they filled with wonder, I couldn’t help but wonder myself if it was because of the internet connection.
The valley, not having good service forces everyone to disconnect to reconnect to nature. Some thing everyone should schedule in.
An energy portal for one may or may not be an energy portal for another. My Reiki Therapist has a strong connection to the river valley and while it is relaxing my energy feels at peace on the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
I can’t tell if its the ocean hues, clear waters or the fact that we are away from it all as a family but there is something special about that place. There is something that starts me planning our next trip there, sometimes before we even leave. This year, the kids agree, we have to stop rushing it and planning it around soccer and football. It needs to be earlier when we can have more time to enjoy.
Also, this year we explored a new city. Typically we start in the lower state visiting my grandparents and we end the trip in the upper state in St. Ignace and Mackinaw Island. This year both of my grandparents took a trip to the pearly gates leaving us with no agenda. My husband only wanted to go to the upper state and not take the Mackinaw Bridge into the lower, BUT because of a selfie stick debacle – NON existent in the Youper territory – we HAD to go to the lower state.
My hubs wanted to be dropped off at the hotel for a nap, if you don’t know him he’s a SLEEPER and 8 hours of sleep just isn’t enough, but I persuaded him to join us in a little further of a road trip. (By persuaded I mean, I was driving and didn’t turn off into the hotel I just kept going. By him not jumping out of the car I feel like he was fine with joining.)
I listened to the little men in the back seat talk video games while my reclined husband snored. The trip itself reminded me of my preteen days and being shuttled there and dropped for the summer. I love getting lost in reminiscing.
The little men and I headed into the store getting snacks, MI college gear and the beloved selfie stick. <3
We also found a TON of dog toys on sale and stocked up for our pup waiting for us at home. By the time we got back to the car we had enough hotel snacks, beer, and randomness to last us. My hubs finally woke up, requesting some coffee and we headed back toward the hotel.
Because we’d already paid for the toll to get across the bridge I asked if we should hang out in the lower state for a while. The weather had been on and off rain and it was FINALLY clearing up. We pulled off in Mackinaw City just before the bridge to explore. We had such a great time!
It was similar to the Island but with far less people, bikes and horses and more cars and unique shops. We spent our time dilly-dalling through the shops and restaurants. This gem quickly became a crowd favorite and a DEFINITE stop on our next trip.
The next day we ferry’d out to the island and rented bikes. The previous year had construction on the island, making half of it shut down but this year we were able to joyride all around it. It was BEAUTIFUL. I took a video of the rocks along the bike path and the ocean hued lake and was mesmerized by peacefulness it brings.
My own energy portal.
The rest of the afternoon we spent shuffling through the tiny pebbles washed up on shore for beach glass. The night was spent beachside with live music and drinks. Unfortunately we did have to rush back for a soccer game and football tryouts but I’m already dreaming of our adventures there next year.
Namaste!
