#truth

There are Fit chicks and skinny chicks, they are very different.  The other day a friend of mine and I ran into a super fit chick.  It was during a yoga in the park session and this girl wasn’t overly flexible but her muscles were SO toned.  After the yoga session my friend and I took a little stroll around the lake and ended up running into this girl.  My friend complimented her on her sweatshirt and then told her that she is super fit.

Fit chick, “Oh thanks.”

My friend, “what do you do to get so fit.”

Fit chick, “oh you know, I’ve got a couple toddlers that I chase around all of the time.  They keep me on my toes.”

Both my friend and I have kids.  Both of us have toddlers.  My friend has a baby that’s recently 5 months.  We knew she was lying.  You don’t get super fit by chasing kids around all day.  By participating in the Oxygen Challenge and by talking to really fit people it turns out being fit has almost everything to do with eating the right foods.  Eating clean makes SUCH a difference on your weight.  Eating alone won’t make you look like this chick did but it helps.

It got me thinking, why the lie?  Why do fit people lie about how they got that way?  Are they ashamed of spending time in the gym?  Are they trying to make us think that they are just naturally like that?  Do we think we’ll judge them?  Do moms not fess up because they are worried other moms will think they are selfish?  All of these questions swirled in my brain the ENTIRE time we talked with her.

Luckily for me my friend is a no-bullshit-kind-of-gal and she didn’t stop with the questions.

My friend, “no that can’t be it, just chasing kids wouldn’t do it, you’re tone, you must lift weights.”

Fit chick, “well, yeah, I lift weights too.”

There it was…the truth.

Even if she didn’t want to face it, the truth was uncovered.  I couldn’t help but wonder if it was a little freeing for her.

I’m not a fit chick.  I work out, but you can’t really tell.  I should say you COULDN’T really tell before the oxygen challenge that is.  I’ve been eating clean and regularly working out for a little over a month and the changes are incredible.  If I had to estimate, I’m 2-4 months out from visible toned muscles.  That is, of course, if I stay on track!

The question remains then when I’m fit, tone and everyone can see it will I lie when asked?  FUCK no.  I won’t lie.  I’ve been working too hard to make these changes, IF someone notices and comments I’m going to have a little celebration inside because my work is visible!

You shouldn’t lie either.  Whether you work out or don’t, truth is more freeing than being misleading.  Be PROUD of the efforts you put in, when they are recognized REJOICE!

Much Love,
