Letting go… a confession

My bestie came over yesterday for our tri-weekly walk. She was wearing a baby blue hoodie that I admired. I realized I had that SAME hoodie! I started to wonder where MY hoodie was like that, it had been a while since I’ve seen it. I realized, that WAS my hoodie, I gave it to her.

My dad came from a poor family. Church hand me downs, free lunch tickets you name it, they got help. Sure they had items but some of the bikes may or may not have been have stolen for him by his older brothers.

Fast forward to now… he has an abundance of everything. I don’t think I would be far from the truth if I said my parents have 5 of everything. Between their 20-60’s they acquired a lot of things. I can’t officially tell if the material things made him feel wealthy or if he just did it because he could. Now in his almost mid-sixties, he’s minimizing.

THANK GOD.

It is very interesting the habits you form. While I didn’t full on get his need to own a bunch of things I do have an over abundance and could stand to free up some space; ESPECIALLY in my closet and shoe rack.

For me, minimizing is tough. The “what if” voice is sometimes loud enough to keep that shirt on the hanger.

You have the “what if” voice too right? The what if I loose weight, what if I gain weight, what if I go to the Maldives tomorrow, what if I’m in a music video, what IF….

That my friends, is why my closet is packed. Are their instances when the what if voice would be accurate? Maybe? Who’s to say I’m not going to go the Maldives tomorrow? You certainly wouldn’t catch me thinking it’s NOT possible! Although I do have plans tomorrow, so I might have to postpone the trip until Tuesday…

We often attach memories to belongings. The fact of the matter is the memory will still be there without the thing.

When I saw my bestie in that hoodie, I thought it fits her well. It looks way better on her than it ever did me. I was happy to have it get use instead of shoved in the back of my closet. It also inspired me to allow some more of my clothes to move on; move on to other closets where hopefully they will be used.

How do you keep your closets/dressers/clothes to a reasonable amount? Asking for a friend… Just kidding, I’m asking for me, I could still use hints and tricks! 🤣

Namaste,

Jes xoxo
