My aspiring rockstars have spring birthdays. All they wanted, was to go to the Joe Satriani and Steve Via show. I was surprised the little one (now 12) would want to do that. He’s JUST breaking into the music world and I was positive that his older brother talked him into the show. In order to make sure HE was interested I asked him to name some songs…
Surprisingly he knew 5!
To be completely honest he could have made up any names (other than Bad Horisie) and I probably would have fallen for it…it’s hard to know song names are without lyrics attached to them, for me anyway.
Later that week a friend of mine, found out I went to the show and he asked me if I liked it. Sure, it made the little one sleepy but it was great!
I really did. That being said, I prefer my music quite a bit heavier… actually a LOT heavier and with words, but the change of pace was nice.
The concert got me thinking, if my oldest (14) ONLY played Avenged Sevenfold after their concert, how would his guitar playing change after the Satch / Vai show?
Well, it’s been a couple weeks and I will say it’s a nice mix. He plays his favorite A7X songs and some Vai and Satch. With the windows down our neighborhood has been lulled to sleep and woken up with some killer solos!
As he gets better and better, I can’t help but think of those ‘good ol’days’ in the early 2000s when the music scene in Minneapolis was ripe… can those bands come back out of hiding and REALLY rock his world like they did mine?? Wouldn’t that be amazing?!
Until then, we’ll just rock out here😊🤘hoping for a reunion tour.
PS… pre show we were all wondering why Vai wasn’t the headliner…but afterwards my oldest and I agree, Satriani STOLE THE SHOW!!!
Namaste, Jes xoxo
