In my past life I was a surfer. I can feel it in my soul. Because I don’t live on the North Shore, there really isn’t any surfing close to me BUT I can paddle board! Since the SUP competition I was in earlier this summer I have been obsessed and saving for my own board. I couldn’t just have a regular jar to put 
my money in, it had to be special. I took a regular mason jar, tinted it and even my boys like putting the money they earn from Grandma and Papa in there!
Here’s what you need to make your own tinted savings jar.
Supplies:
- Mason Jar
- Mod Podge
- Food Coloring
- Glitter
- q-tips
- newspaper or paper
Steps:
- Pour the Mod Podge into the empty and clean mason jar. You’ll want to put about a 1/4 inch of Mod Podge into the jar. Then put some drops of food coloring into the jar. The amount of food coloring is going to depend on the end color. I put about 10 drops of blue and 5 of green to get my finished project. The great thing about this step is you can always start over. The problem is you won’t be able to tell what the actual color will be until it is completely dry. Once the Mod Podge and food coloring is in the bottom of the jar, mix the two together with a pencil or a stick. Mix until the white of the podge is gone.
- Tip your jar and move the liquid around until you have covered the entire glass. Set the jar upside down on a paper plate to get rid of the excess Mod Podge. This may take a while. Once the excess has been removed turn the jar right-side up to dry. The jar will go from being an opaque to see through. Once it’s dry you will be able to see through it.
- Now for your outer designs! I used waves and simply took a q-tip, dipped in Mod Podge and made my designs (one color at a time) then I shook glitter on the glue and started on the next color. You can use anything to decorate the jars. I’ve used glitter, washi tape, markers, hot glue guns and decals. It’s completely up to you! Get creative!
- Once you’re satisfied, let it dry and then fill it up!
Maybe you don’t want to save for a paddle board, but with this technique you could create a gratitude jar and fill it with slips of paper stating your blessings, money to buy something, slips of paper that remind you of funny things that happened throughout the year or perhaps a date jar with upcoming date ideas…what YOU do with it is up to YOU!

PS. I wouldn’t use this method of dying to drink out of the glasses or store any food in them. If you put liquid in the jar, the Mod Podge does not stick, it will get stringy and come out. (Which makes it nice if you don’t like the color, you can start over by just washing it!)
